Loyal readers, I want to personally apologize. After several months of bracket posts, and attempts to predict the correct teams that would make the field, I've failed you.
I only got 64 of the 65 teams right. Fans from Eugene, Ore. to Blacksburg, Va. are still scratching their heads as to how it all could have gone so wrong. For I generated false hopes across Hokie Nation by having the Seth Greenbergs in and Oregon (who inexplicably garnered a 9 seed) out. I feel so awful.
All season long I've been trying to get 'em right, and well, you can only be so perfect, I guess. Sorry.
I know Arty has told us time and again how amazingly simple it is to predict the field. He's right. While pundits argued the merits of certain teams, McGinley went on record Friday declaring Villanova in and Arizona State, UAB, UMass, and Ohio State out. So when it came down to that simple seven, as Arty would call them, I only had six.
Fortunately I updated my post from Friday repeatedly over the course of the next few days, so there is a time-stamped record of my predilections, unlike Monday-morning quarterbacks of the NFL gambling season, showing my disgraceful record of only getting 98.4% of the teams right.
So when Georgia shocked the world, winning as many games in three days as they had in the previous three months, I added their name, and took Illinois State out, in one final prescient move. Anyhoo, I'll try to do better next year, as that is still theoretically plausible.
Until then, enjoy watching the actual games this week, as I won't be able to. Oh and Go Bucks in the NIT.
